We are in the midst of moving into a new home. Like any new venture, we hope it brings something new and exciting. Well, in this case, Google Home happens to encompass both the new and exciting.
For those who don’t know what Google Home is, it is a voice-activated smart speaker; your own Google Assistant. I was sent samples of each to test out and this is such a cool new addition to our life. In the first week of introducing Google Home into our home, it has played music, provided weather forecasts, converted measurements for a recipe and told me the open and close times of a store. I got all that information simply by saying, “Hey Google” followed by what I wanted Google Home to do or answer for me. For example, we love to have music playing while making dinner. So, I simply said, “Hey Google, play some music.” Google Home would then connect to your free of charge Spotify account and start playing music.
Setting up Google Home was a easy as downloading the app, plugging it in and listening to the instructions.
Google Home pairs with Philips to be compatible with their Philips Hue light bulbs. Setting up is easy, simply screw in Philips Hue bulbs around your home and down load the app. Power up the Hue Bridge and connect to Google Assistant to unlock the hands-free magic.
Once connected, you will be able to turn your Philips Hue lights on/off, dim them and select your desired light colour to create the right ambience in your home. This past weekend, while settling down for a cozy movie and popcorn, I said, “Ok Google. Dim my den lights to 20 percent.” Instant, coziness.
Also, through the app, you can preset the Philips Hue bulbs to turn on and off at select times and you can even put a geo-fence around them. This means, as you approach your house the Philips Hue bulbs will turn on. It also means they will turn off if you forget to do so when you leave. This not only helps to conserve energy, but also provides a sense of security. Plus, it’s just really cool!! 🙂
Both the Google Home and the Philips Hue lightbulbs work seamlessly together or independently. Such great additions to our home.
