Why You May Want to Consider Installing a Metal Roof

Hey there! Thanks for popping back.

With every home renovation, you want to be confident that the improvements you make are worth it. Not only aesthetically, but that you’re getting value and longevity out of your investment. This was my mindset when it came to replacing our roof. The big decision was deciding between traditional asphalt shingles or a metal roof. In the end, I decided to go with a metal roof. Yes the upfront cost is more, but in the end this investment is worth every penny!

To help me make the decision, I looked at a few different things:

1. Longevity and return on investment - metal roofing lasts for 50+ years and looks just as good at year 50 as it did on the day it was installed

2. Impact on the environment - metal is 100% recyclable! The primary ingredient of asphalt shingles is tar; a derivative of petroleum, which is toxic and cannot be recycled

3. Cost - although the cost to install our metal roof was about double that of asphalt, we won’t have to replace our roof. In contrast to asphalt shingles where they would likely be replaced 3 times over the roof’s life span than a metal roof, so it made sense to spend the extra money

4. Curb appeal - metal roofing just looks awesome!

Once the decision was made, I went with Vicwest to supply our roofing. Not only did they check off all the considerations I just mentioned, but they are also a proud Canadian company!

Vicwest offers many colours and styles of roofing to choose from. After thumbing through lots of inspiration pictures, I knew what I wanted and chose their SuperVic style roofing in Regent Grey. The other great thing about Vicwest is that they have coatings on their roof to protect it from rust and colour fading - so important living in Canada!

Now that it is installed, it looks gorgeous and really fits into that modern farmhouse theme I was looking to achieve with this renovation.
